About 5 years ago, my uncle Chris told me I should open my own opticians. I remember him saying ‘And you don’t have to sell only glasses!' In June 2016, with the hope of creating a better work / life balance, my husband & I bought a house on Frances Street in Kilrush and moved lock, stock and our baby Theola to the town. After settling down, I then opened Wild Atlantic Opticians in September 2016.

I wanted to do something very different and give patients an experience. We initially incorporated some vintage furniture and quirky props for the glasses and it wasn’t long before our patients began enquiring about purchasing some of our props as well as some items of the furniture! I have now merged my two passions – optometry and interiors - under one roof. Wild Atlantic Opticians & Living now stock unique, quirky gifts, jewellery and interiors along with one of the most extensive range of handpicked eyewear frames in the country.

On entering this unique emporium of gifts and glasses, you really feel like you’re stepping back in time. The building dates back to the early 1900s and has a stunning traditional shopfront with a large double fronted window display. With beautiful antique cabinets showcasing the wonderful frames and special gifts, hanging sculptures from the high ceilings, it really is something a bit different.

The Wild Atlantic Living range consists uniquely inspiring gifts, jewellery and interiors from Irish suppliers and from across the globe aimed at those who want something a little different! The hand-picked items aren’t typically what one would find on the high street and include traditional tweed dicky bows, animal doorstops and timeless jewellery.
